In recent days, the Regional Command West (RC-W) organized the charity race "Race For The Cure" in the municipality of Pejë/Pec, Kosovo. The event, aimed at supporting breast cancer research and treatment, saw the participation of NATO soldiers, faculty and students from Haxhi Zeka University. The non-competitive 5 km race, held within the municipality of Pejë/Pec, was attended by the RC-W commander, Colonel Francesco Ferrara, the Italian Ambassador to Kosovo, Antonello De Riu, and the representative of local institutions, the councilor for culture, sports, and youth, Mrs. Xhenet Syka.
The race represents yet another initiative by Colonel Francesco Ferrara, known for his attention to relations between Italian soldiers and the local population, with particular regard to the issues of the Kosovar community.
At the end of the race, the municipality of Pejë/Pec inaugurated a monument in memory of the 25 years of presence of Italian soldiers in Kosovo. The ceremony was held at the current Dukagjini hotel, former headquarters of the Italian-led Multinational Brigade West. The monument symbolizes the bond between the local community and the Italian soldiers who, over the years, have contributed to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The mayor of Cosenza, Dr. Franz Caruso, sent a message of thanks to the Italian contingent and the Kosovar authorities, highlighting the foundations for future collaboration between the territories, emphasizing the importance of the work carried out by the 1st Bersaglieri Regiment and the concrete commitment to promoting cooperation between the two countries:
The mayor of Cosenza stated: "There is commitment and a concrete willingness to overcome formalities and protocols to instead engage in direct dialogue on the peculiarities and possibilities that our different territories can bring together, in synergy, to create cooperation between the two countries and between our cities. Today the 1st Bersaglieri Regiment concretely embodies these intentions with their mission activity for Peace and the Future.”
The Italian Contingent of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, contributes to maintaining a safe and secure environment, as well as freedom of movement for all communities living in Kosovo, while simultaneously promoting charitable activities under the direction of the Joint Operational Command.
We at BrigataFolgore.net once again extend our Congratulations to Colonel Francesco Ferrara and the 1st Bersaglieri Regiment for representing Italy in the best possible way in a challenging context like Kosovo. The Bersaglieri Officer, along with his men, is demonstrating that dialogue, smiles, and solidarity can prove to be winning weapons even for Soldiers.
