Paratroopers Logistic Regiment Folgore

The Paratroopers Logistic Regiment "Folgore" represents a crucial component in the Paratroopers Brigade Folgore, distinguishing itself for its ability to provide efficient and versatile logistical support. Inheriting a rich military history, the regiment has continuously evolved to adapt to modern needs, while maintaining the tradition and excellence that have characterized it over the years.

History

Established in 2015, it is the heir of the 6th Maneuver Regiment (itself the heir of the Paratroopers Logistic Battalion "Folgore" and the Health Department "Centauro").

The Paratroopers Logistic Battalion Folgore

The Paratroopers Logistic Battalion "Folgore" was established on October 1, 1975, in Pisa, responding to an operational need following the reorganization of the Italian Army and the strengthening of the Paratroopers Brigade "Folgore".

On October 24, 1976, during a ceremony that coincided with the anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein, the Battalion received its War Flag.

On March 7, 1978, the Battalion was assigned the heraldic emblem with the motto "DIAM L'ALI ALLA VITTORIA". This recognition reflected the connection to the Service Units of the Paratroopers Division "Folgore" of 1941.

Over the years, the "Folgore" Battalion has participated in various international missions, both under the aegis of the UN and NATO. These experiences, which include the missions in Lebanon, in Somalia, in Bosnia Herzegovina, in East Timor, and in Kosovo, have helped define the role and identity of the unit within the international context, facing significant logistical challenges and operating in often complex scenarios.

The history of the Paratroopers Logistic Battalion "Folgore" thus intertwines with significant moments in Italian and international military history, reflecting the evolution of logistical and operational needs of the armed forces over time.

The 6th Maneuver Regiment

The 6th Maneuver Regiment was established on September 1, 2001, in the context of a restructuring of the Italian Army's logistics sector at the beginning of the new millennium, as part of a broader reorganization project aimed at optimizing logistical capabilities through the transformation of some logistic battalions, previously framed within their respective brigades, into maneuver regiments and transport regiments. The 6th Maneuver Regiment found its place within the Projection Logistics Brigade, based in Treviso, preserving the War Flag, the Motto, and the traditions of the Paratroopers Logistic Battalion "Folgore" established in 1975.

With the aim of supporting the Paratroopers Brigade "Folgore", the battalion played a fundamental role in enhancing the logistical capabilities of the Large Unit. The 6th Maneuver Regiment inherited not only the War Flag and the motto but also the traditions and ethos of its predecessor.

The organizational structure of the regiment included a Command, a Command and Logistic Support Company, a Maintenance Battalion, a Supply Battalion, and, starting from March 19, 2002, a Health Department based in Novara. The latter was originally the Health Support of the 3rd Mechanized Brigade "Goito", established on July 13, 1981.

The role of the 6th was clearly defined within the operational logistics of the Army, with the task of ensuring the necessary support for maintenance, supplies, and health assistance of the forces deployed in out-of-area operations. Moreover, the regiment contributed to the support needs of the Land Forces even during operational stasis.

Despite its recent establishment, it proved ready and capable of operating in international contexts already in its early days. It was engaged in the multinational exercise "DRAWSKO 2001" in Poland and in Operation "DOMINO 2001", a mission focused on safeguarding strategic objectives. In the following years, the 6th Maneuver Regiment continued to demonstrate its versatility and reliability by participating in missions in the Balkans, Lebanon, Iraq, and Afghanistan, thus consolidating its strategic importance within the operational dynamics of the Italian Army.

Current Structure

Based in Pisa at the Barracks M.O.V.M. Alberto Bechi Luserna, the Logistic Regiment "Folgore" has reconfigured itself to respond more efficiently to contemporary operational needs. Its structure includes a Command and Logistic Support Company and a Logistic Battalion.

The latter is divided into three specialized companies: Maintenance, Transport, and Supply, ensuring comprehensive logistical coverage to the Paratroopers Brigade Folgore.

The Regiment is an emblematic example of how tradition, innovation, and dedication can converge to form a first-rate military logistic support unit. With its highly qualified personnel and efficient organizational structure, the regiment continues to play a vital role in supporting the operations of the Paratroopers Brigade Folgore, confirming its status as a pillar of military logistics.

The military valor of the Paratroopers Logistic Regiment "Folgore" is recognized through the decorations awarded to its war flag: a Bronze Medal for Army Valor and two Army Merit Crosses, one Silver and one Bronze.

The regiment's celebration, held on May 22, coincides with the anniversary of the first major automotive transports of military units engaged in the Battle of the Plateaus in 1916.
