The 187th Paratroopers Regiment “Folgore” has initiated an operational evaluation phase of a remote-controlled robotic transport system, designed for moving loads over complex and rugged terrains. This initiative is part of the broader process of evolving the operational capabilities of light infantry units, with the aim of enhancing tactical micro-mobility in the most challenging contexts.

The system, commonly referred to as a tactical hauler (tactical transporter), is an electric robotic platform characterized by a modular design and various variants, each with specific load capacities. This setup allows for high operational adaptability, making the vehicle suitable for multiple field applications.

The main functions under evaluation include:

  • the transport of materials, equipment, and systems;
  • supporting personnel mobility in dedicated configurations;
  • use in casualty evacuation operations, reducing personnel exposure to risk in hostile or hard-to-reach environments.

The experimentation conducted by the 187th Regiment fits within the operational needs of the Paratroopers Brigade “Folgore”, one of the main readiness components of the Italian Army. The Brigade represents one of the key national defense tools to ensure rapid response and immediate intervention capabilities in crisis and emergency situations, even with short notice and in diverse operational scenarios.

The introduction and evaluation of robotic systems for tactical logistical support confirm the growing focus on technological solutions capable of enhancing operational effectiveness, improving military safety, and increasing the sustainability of operations in modern theaters of deployment. A further step forward towards an armed force increasingly integrated with autonomous and remote-controlled systems, capable of operating effectively in the most complex contexts.
