Today, during the meeting of the Council of Ministers, as reported by the site Sassate, important appointments concerning the leadership of the Ministry of Defense will be decided. Air Force General Antonio Conserva has been chosen as the new Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force (AMI), replacing General Luca Goretti.
Conserva, who boasts a solid career, previously held the position of Chief of Staff at Palazzo Baracchini. Additionally, Admiral Giacinto Ottaviani has been designated to assume the role of Head of the National Armaments Directorate, a strategic position concerning the management and development of Italian armament resources.
Admiral of the Fleet Giacinto Ottaviani, born in San Benedetto del Tronto on July 19, 1964, has a long military career. After attending the Naval Academy (1983-1987), he held various operational and command roles, including Commander of the Frigate EURO during the Persian Gulf Operation, Commander of the Patrol Vessel CASSIOPEA and the Frigate AVIERE participating in NATO Active Endeavour operations, and Commander of the Destroyer ANDREA DORIA in the TUCANO Operation.
He held significant positions on land, including Head of the PERSONNEL Department of the Navy General Staff and the Defense General Staff, and in 2021 he became President of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies. Ottaviani also has a solid academic background, with a degree in Physics, an MBA, and a Master's in Global Strategy and Security. Since July 29, 2024, he has held the position of Deputy Chief of Defense Staff.
The cycle of appointments will conclude next week with the promotion of Air Force General Luigi Del Bene to the role of Deputy Chief of Defense Staff, further strengthening the command structure of the national defense sector. General Luigi Del Bene, born in Sansepolcro in 1967, has embarked on a brilliant career in the Air Force. After attending the Air Force Academy, he graduated in Aeronautical Sciences at the University “Federico II” of Naples.
With thousands of flight hours and numerous honors, he has held command roles, including Commander of the Sixth Wing of the “Red Devils” in Ghedi (Brescia). Recently he was appointed Commander of the First Air Region of Milan, a position he commented on with great pride, expressing gratitude to the Chief of Staff for the trust placed in him. His career is accompanied by the affection and pride of his hometown, Sansepolcro, which has already paid tribute to the general for his professional achievements.
