Paratrooper Lieutenant General Rodolfo Sganga, former Commander of the Paratrooper Brigade Folgore from 2017 to 2019, has been officially appointed as the new Chief of Staff of the Allied Joint Force Command NATO in Naples (JFC Naples).
JFC Naples, located in Lago Patria, in the metropolitan city of Naples, is one of the two operational strategic commands of NATO's Allied Command Operations, alongside JFC Brunssum based in Belgium. This command plays a crucial role in coordinating NATO operations, with a particular focus on security and stability in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
With the new appointment, General Sganga assumes the responsibility of leading and coordinating the staff and operations of JFC Naples, at a crucial historical moment for NATO. His extensive experience in extremely complex operational contexts makes him the ideal figure to tackle the strategic challenges of global security and strengthen NATO's role in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
Sganga's appointment represents not only recognition of his exceptional military career but also an opportunity to consolidate Italy's presence and influence within the Atlantic Alliance.
General Rodolfo Sganga boasts a career of excellence in the Italian Army, which began in 1987 and was consolidated through key roles in prestigious units such as the Regiment Lagunari “Serenissima” and the 183rd Paratrooper Regiment “Nembo”. Among his numerous assignments, the command of the 2nd Paratrooper Battalion “Tarquinia” in Afghanistan stands out, where he was decorated with the Silver Medal for Army Valor for the heroic intervention in 2009 in Bala Baluk. He also led the 187th Paratrooper Regiment “Folgore” and, between 2017 and 2019, the Paratrooper Brigade “Folgore”.
In addition to his operational assignments, he represented Italy as Military Attaché at the embassy in Washington D.C. and served as Director of the III Department of the General Secretariat of Defense, with particular attention to industrial policy and international relations.
We are confident that the Varese-born General, with his proven leadership and strategic skills, will once again put his experience at the service of the international community, ensuring the utmost protection of the interests of the Atlantic Alliance, of which Italy, we recall, was also a founding member on April 4, 1949.
We extend our best wishes to General Sganga for the extraordinary assignment.
Folgore, Commander!
