He saw a man in distress, dragged by the waves, and did not hesitate for a moment: an Italian Army Paratrooper, off duty, jumped into the sea and rescued a swimmer who had fallen ill in the waters of the province of Nuoro.
A quick, instinctive, and courageous intervention that prevented the worst. Thanks to his training and demonstrated composure, the soldier brought the man back to shore, who was at serious risk of drowning.
The incident was also highlighted by the Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, who commented:
A gesture that tells what it truly means to be a soldier: always being there, in service of the community, close to the citizens. His readiness, courage, and heart remind us that the training and sense of duty of our military know no boundaries or breaks. These are the men and women of Defense"
A news story that becomes a concrete testimony of the role of Italian military: trained professionals not only to operate in crisis scenarios and international missions but also ready to intervene in everyday life in service of the citizen.
