In a recent conference held at the NRDC-ITA operational headquarters, the leaders of the Allied Reaction Force (ARF) met to outline strategies ahead of the imminent operational date of the new force. The ARF Component Commanders' Conference saw the active participation of all unit Commanders at the tactical level, who from next July 1st will form the Allied Reaction Force (ARF).
Under the leadership of the NRDC-ITA Commander, General of Army Corps Paratrooper Lorenzo D'Addario, the meeting outlined future strategic directions and consolidated the foundations of a force characterized by a marked multidomain as well as multinational connotation. The presence of various NATO representatives allowed for discussions focused on planned activities and the readiness status of the units, with particular attention to the upcoming NRDC-ITA exercises as the ARF headquarters.
The formation of this reaction force highlights the Alliance's ability to promptly respond to emerging threats and crises, also emphasizing the commitment to operations that transcend national borders and traditional domains of intervention. The ARF thus represents a step forward in the evolution of NATO's defensive strategies, promising to offer new tactical and operational options.
The year 2024 will be a year of significant challenges for NRDC-ITA, which will engage in a series of military exercises, academic studies, and staff training programs. These activities will culminate with the Steadfast Deterrence exercise scheduled for May, aimed at testing the resilience and operational readiness of the ARF.
The central role assumed by NRDC-ITA within the ARF strengthens pre-existing relationships within the NATO structure, also opening doors to new collaborations by sharing skills and experiences with new partners and allies.
NRDC-ITA is a testament to Italy's commitment to the Atlantic Alliance, highlighting its key role in the defense and deterrence of the Euro-Atlantic area, projecting NRDC-ITA at the center of a global commitment to international security and stability.
What is ARF, Allied Reaction Force
Operational from July 1, 2024, the Allied Reaction Force (ARF) will be a new multinational and multidomain NATO force, providing additional options to quickly respond to threats and crises in all directions within the Alliance territory.
The establishment of the ARF was announced during the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023. The NRDC-ITA will provide the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) with an immediate crisis response capability, while also offering the opportunity for the development of permanent ARF structures.
In September 2023 NRDC-ITA was chosen as the interim headquarters for the new Force of the Atlantic Alliance.
