The Military Academy recently inaugurated the exhibition "Check Point Pasta, Mogadishu 1993-2023", a photographic exhibition commemorating, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary, the fallen in the first major post-war military clash: the three Gold Medals for Military Valor Paratrooper C.le Pasquale Baccaro, Serg. Maj. Par. Stefano Paolicchi and Second Lieutenant Andrea Millevoi.
The event not only honors the memory of the fallen and wounded soldiers (including Lt. Col. Gianfranco Paglia), but also provides a detailed overview of the Somali context in the period 1992-94.
The site BRIGATAFOLGORE.NET, always attentive to historical reconstruction and the enhancement of the Italian contribution in international contexts, offers ample space to the Italian Mission in Somalia and the Battle of the Pasta Factory, documenting these events since 2005 on the old platform, and enriched today by the contribution of the book "I diavoli neri. La vera storia della battaglia di Mogadiscio" by General Paolo Riccò, which has provided new perspectives and details on the event.
Key figures attended the inauguration of the exhibition, including the then Commander of the Italian Contingent in Somalia, General of the Army Corps (res.) Bruno Loi, the Commander of the Institute, Major General Davide Scalabrin, and the curator of the exhibition, Brigadier General (res.) Matteo Paesano.
The exhibition offers an in-depth view of the situation in Somalia between 1992 and 1994, highlighting the UN's actions to stabilize the region and emphasizing humanitarian efforts in favor of the local population, particularly focusing on the battle of the "Pasta" checkpoint and retracing the various missions of the Italian Army from the post-war period to today.
Visitors will be able to explore photographs, prints, and illustrations until March 10, 2024, at the Military Academy, before the next setup at the Training Command and Application School in Turin, thus having the opportunity to reflect on the Italian commitment to international peace and stability.
