Musei (SU) – Domusnovas (SU) – Sardinia becomes a key player in the national industrial and technological revival in the defense sector. The Italian subsidiary of the German group Rheinmetall, Rwm Italia, has launched the production of a new line of combat drones and loitering munitions, consolidating its role in the European aerospace and security landscape.
A high-tech industrial project
In the modern facilities of Musei and Domusnovas, recently expanded, Rwm Italia has completed an advanced center for the assembly, testing, and integration of warheads for the new generation munitions.
The project, developed in collaboration with the Israeli company UVision Air Ltd, allows the production in Italy of the innovative platforms of the HERO family:

- HERO 30, lightweight and portable, intended for infantry units;
- HERO 120, medium-sized, designed to neutralize armored vehicles and tactical targets;
- HERO 400, with extended range and endurance, used for precision missions on strategic targets.
The production line combines high-profile electronic, mechanical, and IT skills, placing Sardinia in the European network of dual-use unmanned technologies, both civilian and military.
Investments and employment
Rheinmetall has announced an order portfolio exceeding 200 million euros, with supplies destined for eight European countries, both NATO members and strategic partners.
The industrial expansion has already generated 350 direct jobs and plans to hire an additional 250 employees in the coming months, demonstrating the positive impact of the initiative on the local economic fabric.
In addition to the direct supply chain, the presence of Rwm Italia is fostering the creation of a network of small and medium-sized Sardinian enterprises engaged in precision mechanics, electronics, and composite materials. The new industrial collaborations strengthen Sulcis' role as a technological hub for defense and aerospace, capable of attracting national and foreign skills and investments.

Innovation and international synergies
The Sardinian initiative is part of Rheinmetall's global strategy for the development of autonomous systems and support for joint operations. The company collaborates with leading entities such as Lockheed Martin and Anduril, aiming to build an advanced European platform in the field of smart drones and precision munitions.
The new production hub in Musei and Domusnovas thus represents a case of industrial and technological success, capable of combining innovation, high specialization, and employment sustainability in a territory historically seeking revival.
A catalyst for Sardinia and Italy
The birth of this strategic supply chain in the south of the island confirms the Italian manufacturing vocation and the country's ability to actively contribute to the European defense value chains.
The initiative of Rwm Italia not only strengthens the national industrial presence in the unmanned sector, but also represents an important engine of socio-economic development, creating new professional opportunities for young technicians, engineers, and specialized operators.
With a perspective of stable growth and significant international collaborations, Sardinia thus establishes itself as one of the new European hubs for security and aerospace technology.
