Today the Day dedicated to military and civilian Fallen in international peace missions was celebrated, a moment of deep reflection and gratitude towards those who sacrificed their lives in the service of peace, security, and solidarity among peoples.
The Chief of Staff of the Army, General of the Army Corps Carmine Masiello, participated, along with numerous civil and military authorities, in the initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Defense, paying tribute to the memory of those who, with courage, sense of duty, and spirit of service, contributed to the protection of the values of democracy and international stability.
At the Altare della Patria, the Minister of Defense, accompanied by the Chief of Defense Staff and in the presence of high civil and military authorities, paid tribute to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the ultimate symbol of all soldiers fallen in the line of duty.
The day continued with the celebration of Holy Mass at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli, officiated in suffrage of the Fallen and for the spiritual support of their families and all soldiers engaged daily in missions at home and abroad.
At the end of the celebrations, the Chief of Staff of the Army met with the families of the Fallen at the Circolo Ufficiali Pio IX, expressing words of sincere closeness and gratitude for their sacrifice, their dignity, and their strength.
Established by Law 12 November 2009 n.162, in conjunction with the anniversary of the Nassiriya attack, this Day represents a moment of profound unity for the Country, in which the national community comes together around the values of solidarity, dedication, and sacrifice for the common good, renewing the memory of our Fallen and gratitude towards their families — an example of courage and resilience that continues to inspire the entire Nation.
