Alle Grazie (La Spezia) – Six new divers of the Italian Navy have received their certification at the end of the 2025 Ordinary Divers Course, thus joining the specialized underwater component of the Comando Subacquei e Incursori “Teseo Tesei” (Comsubin), based in Varignano, Alle Grazie. The ceremony took place on the morning of Thursday, February 26, 2026, in the presence of political and military authorities.
During the awarding, the Navy reiterated the role of this specialty as a reference point in the most complex underwater activities: “The divers represent Italian excellence in the context of complex underwater operations”, emphasizing how the professionalism, passion, and values of Comsubin operators constitute a strategic asset for the Armed Forces.

The “blue beret” and a milestone that opens up to the operational line
The certification (traditionally linked to the delivery of the blue beret) marks the transition from training to full operational status, in a community that combines tradition and technological innovation and that, over the years, has consolidated an international reputation.
Matteo Perego di Cremnago participated in the certification ceremony of the diver trainees and in his speech paid tribute to the specificity and toughness of the divers' work, recalling that theirs is “a dark, silent, cold, and extreme world”, in which they operate every day carrying out essential missions for the defense and security of the country. He then emphasized the value of the blue beret tradition, calling on the newly certified to preserve and renew the legacy of those who preceded them, with full awareness of the strategic role they are called to play in the service of Italy.

Training oriented towards the most challenging scenarios
The certification comes at the end of a selective and high-intensity course, designed to operate in extreme conditions: advanced underwater work, management of complex scenarios, and use of specialized equipment (also for cutting and welding), with simulations in flooded environments and training modules dedicated to “salvage” operations.
In a context where critical infrastructures and economic activities are increasingly developing below the sea surface, the role of divers remains central: technical skills, physical endurance, and decision-making clarity are essential requirements to intervene effectively, both in military contexts and in operations supporting the community.
The underwater heart of Comsubin
The Comsubin “Teseo Tesei” is the elite command of the Navy that includes both the raiders and the underwater component; the historic headquarters is in the Varignano complex, Alle Grazie, in the Gulf of La Spezia.
With the certification obtained today, the six new divers join one of the most demanding and recognized specialties of the Armed Forces, carrying forward an operational tradition that continues to renew itself through training, technology, and a culture of safety.
