Airdrop of the War Flags of the Folgore Paratroopers Brigade in Honor of the 82nd Anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein

On the occasion of the Anniversary celebrations of the Battle of El Alamein, the traditional airdrop of the War Flags of the units of the Folgore Paratroopers Brigade took place at the Altopascio drop zone. The event, rich in symbolism and history, was attended by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Massimiliano Mongillo, who personally led the flag drop, emphasizing the importance of this gesture to remember the heroism of the Italian Paratrooper units.

The airdrop featured the War Flags of the “Folgore” units, the Institute Flag, and the Standard, along with the banners of other elite units of the Italian Armed Forces. Participants included the Army Special Forces Command (COMFOSE), the 4th Alpini Paratroopers Regiment "Ranger", the 9th Assault Regiment “Col Moschin”, the 185th Reconnaissance Target Acquisition Regiment “Folgore”, the 1st Carabinieri Paratroopers Regiment "Tuscania", and the Medal Collection of the National Association of Italian Paratroopers.

This event represents one of the most significant traditions for the Paratrooper units, on the eve of the Specialty celebration, which this year will be held in Pisa, at the CAPAR barracks, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

During the ceremony, conducted directly at the drop zone, the Commander of the “Folgore”, Brig. Gen. Massimiliano Mongillo, after recalling some of the most significant historical moments, highlighted how the common denominator that links the Folgore, the units of the Army Special Forces Command, and the 2nd Mobile Carabinieri Brigade, is “the sharing of values forged in the history of absolute heroism and generosity of our units, which have never bowed before the enemy in fulfilling their duty in the service of the Homeland”.

This airdrop symbolizes not only the operational capability of the Folgore but also the esprit de corps of our Paratroopers and the indissoluble bond with Italian Military History.
