Marta (VT), September 1, 2025 – A serious road accident yesterday claimed the life of Paratrooper Sergeant Major Mikolaj Trovato, 42 years old, serving at the Non-Commissioned Officers School of Viterbo.
The dramatic collision occurred on Monday afternoon along the Verentana provincial road, in the area of Pian delle Grotte, near the intersection with strada dei Carri, in the industrial laundry area. Shortly after 6 PM, the motorcycle driven by the Non-Commissioned Officer collided violently with a truck.
The carabinieri from the Marta and Capodimonte stations, the firefighters, and the 118 medical personnel with an ambulance and medical car immediately intervened on the scene. Despite rapid resuscitation attempts, there was nothing that could be done for the soldier: the doctors could only confirm his death. The provincial road was temporarily closed to allow for surveys and to secure the area.
The dynamics of the accident are now under examination by the carabinieri, who have conducted surveys to precisely determine the causes of the collision.
The Memory of a Valiant Soldier
Originally from Catania, Mikolaj Trovato was a lively young man and a highly esteemed soldier, with several years of service at the 186th Paratroopers Regiment Folgore of Siena, where he was part of the 15th Company “Black Devils”. He had long served as a bomb disposal expert at the Non-Commissioned Officers School of Viterbo, continuing to put his experience and professionalism at the service of new generations of soldiers.
Married and father of a child, he leaves a deep void in his family, among his comrades, and in the entire military and civilian community. Colleagues remember him as a man of great dedication, esprit de corps, and passion for military life, values he embodied throughout his years of service in the Italian Army.
The Message from Minister Crosetto
The Minister of Defense Hon. Guido Crosetto expressed his deep condolences for the tragic loss through the Ministry of Defense's social channels:
The news of the passing of Italian Army Sergeant Major Mikolaj Sergiej Trovato deeply saddens me. A servant of the State who lost his life while returning home at the end of his service. In this moment of profound sadness, on behalf of myself and the entire #Defense, I express closeness to the family, the Chief of Staff, Army Corps General Carmine Masiello, and the entire Italian Army.
