From March 9 to 19, 2026, Norway hosts Cold Response 2026, the country's largest military exercise. In an increasingly unstable international context, the operation aims to strengthen deterrence and collective security on NATO's northern flank.
32,500 military personnel from 14 allied countries participate: 25,000 in Norway and 7,500 in Finland. Activities take place in northern Norway, northern Finland, and maritime areas of the North Atlantic, under the guidance of a joint Norwegian-American command.
The exercise involves land, naval, air, cyber, and space forces, with the goal of improving interoperability, operational readiness, and common defense capabilities. It is also an important step for the integration of Finland and Sweden into NATO.
Training in extreme Arctic conditions allows allies to test personnel, equipment, and strategies in one of the most sensitive scenarios for European security.
