The 2025 edition of the multinational exercise Bold Quest is underway at the U.S. National Guard Maneuver Training Center in Fort Pickett, Virginia (USA), an annual activity led by the U.S. Joint Staff J6 that sees the joint participation of U.S., allied, and industrial partner armed forces.
Bold Quest is configured as an “operational demonstration and assessment exercise” aimed at improving tactical, technical, and procedural interoperability among the forces involved. The primary objective of this edition is the experimentation and development of the Coalition Joint All Domain C2 (CJADC2), a model that aims to integrate command and control across different domains – land, air, sea, space, and cyber – through Live, Virtual & Constructive (LVC) scenarios.
Multinational interoperability and multi-domain scenarios
On the ground, there are over 1,000 military and defense industry civilians from 24 countries. The main focus is to test advanced C2 (Command and Control) technological solutions, verifying their effectiveness in a multinational context characterized by multi-domain challenges.
Bold Quest indeed represents a unique platform to test in realistic conditions the ability to share critical information, synchronize maneuvers, and integrate weapon systems and sensors belonging to different nations. In this way, the resilience of coalitions is strengthened, and response times to threats in the field are shortened.

Italian participation: San Marco, Army, and industry
Italy plays a significant role in this 2025 edition.
For the Marina Militare, the Brigata Marina San Marco (BMSM) is present, while for the Esercito Italiano, the Comando Validazione e Innovazione (COMVIE.) unit and the Centro Fire Targeting & Info Ops of the Artillery Command are participating.
On the industrial front, the national component is represented by three key players:
- A.ST.I.M. srl, a company from Ravenna that has deployed the C2 system TALON TMS MK4 (Target Acquisition Land Observation and Navigation Tactical Mission System);
- Fincantieri Nextech, present with the SitaWare Headquarters (HQ) system named Imperio;
- Leonardo Company, contributing with the Multi Data Link Processor (MDLP), a key element for managing and integrating data flows.
Towards an integrated digital coalition
Bold Quest 2025 is not only a technological testing ground but also a political and military laboratory that allows for the consolidation of trust among allies, enhancement of cooperation, and validation of innovative operational concepts. For Italy, the joint participation of the Armed Forces and industry represents a valuable opportunity to test national solutions in the field, compare them with those of allies, and actively contribute to the path leading towards an integrated digital coalition.
With CJADC2, the future of command and control appears increasingly interconnected, resilient, and multi-domain: a horizon that Bold Quest 2025 helps to make a reality.
